We’ve made it to May — Mental Health Awareness Month. And before we jump into tips, tools, or affirmations, I want to pause and ask you a simple question:
How are you really doing?
Not the polite “I’m fine,” or the robotic “Just tired” — but the real, raw truth you might only admit in the shower or in a late-night journal entry.
If your answer is “I don’t know,” that’s okay too.
Life moves fast. Sometimes so fast, we forget to check in with the person who matters most: ourselves. That’s what this post — and this series — is about. Slowing down enough to see where you are, acknowledge what you’re carrying, and take the first step toward caring for your mind.
Mental Health Self Check-In Prompts:
Use these to reflect in a journal, phone note, or even just during a quiet moment:
- What emotion have I been feeling the most lately?
- What is draining my energy right now?
- What’s something I need to say “no” to this month?
- What’s one thing that’s bringing me joy?
- How can I support my mental health this week?
ImperfectlyK Reminder:
You don’t have to have it all together to take care of yourself. Start where you are. Be honest with what you need.
Try This This Week:
- 10-minute quiet time in the morning (no phone)
- Journal your thoughts for 5 minutes a day
- Say “no” without explaining yourself
- Text a friend and ask them how they’re really doing
Share this post with someone who might need the reminder to check in with themselves too. And comment below — how are you really doing?
Until next time — keep growing and thriving on the journey.
xo, Kieks

I’ll go First.. I have been feeling really good lately. I credit a mix of Self Care, Letting go of things I have no control over. Letting go of over thinking Journaling and being creative. Having a peaceful home and peaceful partner.
Coming off a year of highs and lows it feels good to feel good.
