Diet and Hydration: Keys to Clear Skin in Your 40s

Turning 40 has been a big milestone for me, and with it came some unexpected changes—almost like going through a second puberty. I started noticing hormonal acne, something I hadn’t dealt with in years, and it really threw me off. The breakouts felt different, and no matter what I tried, my skin wasn’t improving.

After over a year of frustration, I decided to visit my dermatologist. They prescribed antibiotics, a medicated face wash, and a retinoid cream to help with the scars from popping my pimples (which, let’s be real, was hard to resist!).

  • Alcohol: Alcohol can elevate cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and disrupt the balance of estrogen and progesterone—key players in regulating the menstrual cycle and overall skin health. By cutting back on alcohol, I’ve noticed my skin has become more balanced and less prone to breakouts.
