Why are we so mean to ourselves? Especially us women.

I recently had a conversation with a friend, and she was paying me a compliment on a picture I posted. The picture was about a year old, so I responded I don’t look like that anymore and proceeded to beat myself down lightly.

In that same conversation my friend started to be not so kind to herself, honestly saying something about herself that I have said about myself on many occasions, my response was no we are not doing that we are being nice to ourselves. Catch the hypocrisy?

Why can we see the best in everyone else but not ourselves?

I know I have personally always been able to give kind words and praise to others that I have rarely been able to give to myself.

I have spent so much of my life being mean to myself that is rarely any room for it to come from anywhere else.

I read something one day that said a that people who are hard on themselves spent most of their childhood being judged by others. “I agree”

I also think that as women we are judged so heavily by the world  that seeing how great we are is hard. The world makes us feel like there is a standard (looks, figure, have children, don’t have children, married, have a man ,don’t have one, accolades etc. I could go on but I wont lol) to live up to and if we do not live up to that standard, we are not worthy of kind words, compliments, and Love. We tend to judge ourselves based on those standards that are truthfully un realistic. We are not all meant to look the same be shaped the same or accomplish all of the same things.

Just like everything else change starts with you! Believe that you are the standard because you are.

I am here to let you know that you are worthy of kind words from yourself.

What you think of yourself, how you speak to yourself and how you see yourself affects how you move in this world.

Join me in challenging ourselves today to just be nicer to ourselves everyday.

Just like every bad habit it start with one small change.

One response to “Be Nicer to yourself”

Yeah, really important message. In my opinion, I think that when it comes to women being judged so heavily by the world, the main factors include:

    1. An inherently patriarchal system/society – men generally dominate positions of power; hence, they are the ones who determine the norms of society and culture. Such power also corrupts people, and so they become arrogant and tell others how to live, what’s ‘acceptable’ and what’s not….because it makes them feel good.

    2. An inherently capitalist, consumerist system. This system, in its greed for profits, preys on and amplifies whatever inherent insecurities that humans in general may have, so that they will feel the urge to buy whatever products the companies are selling, in order to become and look ‘better’.
