Happy Birthday to Me

This past weekend I celebrated my 42nd birthday — wow, 42 y’all! Honestly, I’m still letting that sink in. I didn’t stick to the no-plans, staycation idea I originally had, but life had something even sweeter in store.

This year, my boyfriend surprised me with a trip to Serenity Cellars in North Georgia. A whole day of wine tasting (my absolute fave) surrounded by gorgeous scenery (another fave). It was the perfect mix of relaxation and celebration — no stress, no overthinking, just enjoying the moment.

There’s something about wine country that slows you down and reminds you to savor life, one sip at a time. Turning 42 felt like that too — appreciating where I am, embracing how far I’ve come, and leaning into joy in simple but meaningful ways.

Lessons at 42: Letting Go & Pivoting

Two things are sitting heavy on my heart for this next year: letting go of control and learning how to pivot.

I’ve realized that the best moments — like this birthday trip — happen when I release my tight grip on how things should go. Letting go doesn’t mean I don’t care, it just means I’m making space for life to surprise me.

And pivoting? That’s about giving myself permission to change direction without guilt. Sometimes the plan won’t work out, sometimes life throws a curveball, and sometimes what you thought you wanted isn’t what you need. Pivoting allows me to move with grace instead of frustration.

Birthday Highlights

  • A day full of wine tasting
  • The beauty of North Georgia’s mountain views
  • Sharing it all with my person
  • Looking Good Doing it

Closing Thoughts

If my 30s were about figuring things out, my 40s are about fully living them out — with a little more grace, a lot more confidence, and yes… still plenty of wine. Here’s to 42, to love, to letting go, and to learning how to pivot when life calls for it.

It’s my birthday — wish me a happy 42 in the comments and tell me: what’s one lesson you’re carrying with you this year? 🥂
