Word Prompt: What is something others do that sparks your admiration?
Have you ever met naturally giving people? they do not have much but they will share what they have. Those are the people I admire the most.
When I was growing up every holiday, birthday or family gathering our family had. I always remember my grandmother packing plates at the end of the night for her neighbors and friends from church.
She always had a list of names to make sure they got some food that night. She had her list, and my aunt would sit a pack them all.
As a kid I did not understand why she did this.
I understand so much more now. It is God’s work. It was a way to say thank you for her blessing-by-blessing others.
The more I pay attention, the more I realize that those who give to others are so blessed. As I get closer to God, this realization deepens.
My aunt has followed in her footsteps. She gives whatever she can to anyone that needs it. As a result, she remains so blessed.
Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you”
My Father, people and have said so much about my dad. But one thing about that man is that he is always willing to give. Whether it is a bed to sleep in, food to eat, or his knowledge or financial help to start a business venture he is willing to help.
As a kid, I hated it. There was always someone staying in our home. It was my dad’s way to help those who didn’t have anywhere to go.
When we are generous and give, we are only giving back what the Lord first gave to us.
Last weekend I went to a funeral for my partner’s uncle. As everyone spoke about him, what resonated most was how great he was. He gave so freely to those in his community as well as his family. What I loved most is he did it out of the kindness of his heart. It was not for show. He didn’t need to let people know what he did. I didn’t know much about him before, but he now has so much of my admiration.
Matthew 6:2-4 “When you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others”.
Conclusion
There are many more giving people in my life. I admire them so much. I can go on and on about them.
People that give so freely if it is time, money, things, or knowledge have my admiration. We live in a world where everyone is worried about themselves. Just knowing that there are good selfless people out there warms my heart.
They also make me want to do and be better when it comes to giving. This is definitely high on my life goals list.
